About Jennifer
Taking a Holistic & Radical Approach to Therapy
My name is Jenifer Milner and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Maryland. I have a BA in English and a MS in mental health counseling, along with six years of experience working with people experiencing a broad range of human problems, such as anxiety, depression, mood instability, conflict within their relationships, and many other issues that tend to be a natural, yet unfortunate part of the human experience. If you’re reading my bio right now, chances are, like Maya Angelou said, “we are more alike than unalike.” After all we are both human. We all have human problems that we must face from time to time and a tendency to think “crooked” thoughts that influence the creation and maintenance of painful emotions and influence us to engage in ineffective behaviors.
I don’t have a magic potion to cure your problems and make you immune to all life difficulties. Unfortunately, I can’t take the teeth out of life, but I can help you with work and practice to develop and foster unconditional self/other/life acceptance, think flexible/anti-pessimistic thoughts, influence more positive emotions more often than negative emotions, and help you create action plans that have a compound effect, thus helping you to in a sense, cast votes for the person you decide you’d like to be. This I can offer you.
I have a primary and advanced certificate in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy that I received from the Albert Ellis Institute in NYC after completing two Certificate Practicums. I focus on the unique needs of individuals, utilizing the scientific thinking approach of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy to effectively manage thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I have specialized training in the treatment modality called REBT. The approach is philosophical and psycho-educational. I use techniques that help people identify ineffective thinking styles to utilize self-promoting and functional ways of behaving to get off of the "roller-coaster ride" of ever-shifting moods, as well as reducing the impact of depression and anxiety.

Pain is neither intolerable nor everlasting if you bear in mind that it has its limits, and if you add nothing to it in imagination.” ~Marcus Aurelius

Maybe it’s time to take a no Bull shit approach to therapy that is action-oriented, scientific, and philosophical. You will learn how to un-upset yourself even when faced with significant adversities that are a part of life.
